You Better Think

You Better Think

With the recent passing of legendary singer Aretha Franklin, it reminded me of one of her songs, a favorite of mine. Think was one of my favorites from one of my favorite movies from my teens The Blues Brothers. Something as simple as thinking is so overlooked in our society today. It seems we need others to think for us. Because of 24/7 news and information, social media and advertising it is easy to slip into a brain coma of not thinking for ourselves.

The ability to think is much more important than anything else we do. If we don’t think, others will think for us. Whether it is religion, government, media, friends or family, if we stop thinking and starting following others without question our lives are not our own.

Everything you know, see, hear, touch or feel all started as a thought from someone. The computer in which you are reading this blog, the chair in which you are sitting and the building or house you are in all started as a thought by someone. Think about how powerful our thoughts really are, we have the ability to create anything. We are only limited by our thoughts and yet as a society, we have lost the ability to just sit and think. Henry Ford once said “thinking is the hardest work there is, which is probably the reason why so few engage in it.” I prefer to believe it is the hardest easiest thing we do. Critical and creative thinking is how we grow as human beings in all aspects of our lives. Success only comes to those of us that think on a regular basis.

The Law of Attraction is based on our thoughts. Earl Nightingale’s “Strangest Secret” is based on we become what we think about most often. I am not sure why so many people can’t latch on to that concept. Positive thinking is the only way to a positive life regardless of one’s beliefs on how to achieve it. Stop being negative, stop following and make time everyday just to sit and think about what you want out of this life.

“Thinking: the talking of the soul with itself.”—Plato
